Hi, my name is Derek Mogensen and I'm grateful you made it to my website!

My photographic journey began in 2001 with a 1.3 megapixel Sony Mavic, as an Outdoor Recreation Coordinator for a community college in Colorado.  I fell in love with capturing the students and the scenics on our adventures.  Before long I was investing in my own equipment to take better images.  Then the photography requests came rolling in and I was being published in major magazines and news outlets.

Now I'm equipped with a Sony Alpha 7R III, a 40 megapixel marvel, strobe lighting, and years of exploration and continued development.  And more importantly, inspired by mindfulness.  My vision is to capture people candidly as well as in portraiture, while in their adventures or events, while being rooted in presence.

Why let a stranger into your personal adventures?  As an Enneagram 9, I can telly you my demeanor is truly calm and peaceful.  People often tell me my presence makes them feel calm.  And if I am going to be a shadow on your adventure it is important that you are comfortable.  As a parent of two kiddos myself, I'm at home with kids, allowing them to be themselves.  When you let me into your inner circle to capture your adventures, you will experience the most magical memories in stunning detail.
